App Review: Question It

I received no compensation for this review. The opinions are my own.

QuestionIt (Language Learning Apps, LLC) is one app on my iPad that gets plenty of use. Over the past few years, I have had a few students on my caseload who don't understand "Wh" questions. They may answer when questions with a where question. This app walks them through the steps to understanding the questions.
When you open the app, you will see the following screen:
By clicking on Therapist, you will be able to put in students' names, view the student's summary, rename the student, clear the student's data, delete the student, or e-mail the report. The Student Summary breaks down each "Wh" question. The only thing it doesn't do is give you an overall percentage.
Back to the opening screen: there are 4 different levels: Sorting, Sentences, Advance Sentences, and Paragraph. Within Sort and Sentence, there are 3 levels; for Advance Sentence and Paragraph; there are only 2.
The beginning level in sorting allows the child to match the colors for the correct answer:
The next level has the pictures in different colored frames:
The highest level's pictures are on an all-white background:
When the student slides the picture to the correct answer, there is a verbal explanation to the answer. For example: Go. Go is an action. An action answers "What doing". After answering, the next answer pops up on the screen.
In the Sentence level, the question is asked as each picture pops up. In this level, the student is required to touch the answer. This causes a little bit of confusion for some students, but they quickly learn to touch (instead of slide) the picture. After the question is answered, there is an explanation (I answers who. I is a person.) and a green arrow appears in the bottom right corner. The next question will be asked after the arrow is touched. This allows the SLP time to teach.
The Advance Sentence level mixes up the sentences:
The Paragraph level consists of three sentences. After reading the paragraph, the question is asked.
Most of the time when I use this app, I turn the volume off. Within the paragraph level, there is not a break between sentences, so it can be a little confusing. Also, with this level, make sure you watch the student's answer. Sometimes there is more than 1 picture for the answer; the app doesn't differentiate between the pictures, just that it is the correct one.
As I said, I use this app quite often. I like that it walks the students through the steps of answering questions. I've also used this app for students working on asking questions. I cover the answer on the iPad and have the student ask the question by inserting the question word at the beginning of the sentence, then leaving out the "answer". After they are able to do that, I don't cover the answer.
I would like to see the overall percentage in the Student Summary. One other thing I would like to see changed is the ability to turn off the fireworks that appear after every 5 questions.  I would also like to see the ability to delete certain sessions. Right now you only have the capability of deleting all of the data.
QuestionIt is available on iTunes for $19.99, and, in my opinion, is well worth the money. You can purchase it here.

  1. I agree. I like the app, but I must say I haven't been using my iPad that much these days!
