I'm joining up with other SLPs at Speech is Sweet for her weekly linky. It's super easy to link up: just write a blog post about the book that you're using this week, along with how you're using it in therapy. Then, link up!
While I was at the ASHA Convention, I had the opportunity to watch a LessonPix demo. I had seen the site, but hadn't taken the time to see what it was all about. Oh.My. This site does just about anything you could want to do! There are so many pictures in the database, but if you need a picture that isn't already in the library, all you have to do is contact Lori & she'll get it to you as soon as she can! Case in point: there wasn't a picture of a barber in the library, so I made a request, and I had an email right after Christmas Break that it had been included!
This week, we're reading The Wild Toboggan Ride (Suzan Reid). Grandpa is hesitant to let Nikki go down the hill in her toboggan one more time, but as he stamps his foot to keep warm, he trips over his long scarf and ends up on the toboggan. That begins a wild ride through the town, starting a chain of townspeople who end up on the ride.
I used LessonPix to create a bundle of sorts to use with my students this week. To download, click on the title of the activity. You will be taken to the activity in LessonPix, then you can download. (You can get a free 30 day trial to try it out; a year's subscription is only $36! Bill gave my special ed coordinator and a few SLPs in the system a remote demo; as a result, my coordinator is purchasing licenses for all of us!!!)
Wild Toboggan Ride (Suzan Reid) cards for Cariboo Game.
For the sequencing, I bought a sled (it's a sled, not a toboggan, but the kids here call everything that goes down a hill a sled! To the kids in the South, a toboggan is something you wear on your head.) from Micheal's half-off after Christmas, and I already had a mini-garbage can.
The next activity was inspired by Queen's Speech's Structured Sentence Building. The activity is in a jpeg format in this post, but if you would like it, I'll be happy to send it to you in either a doc or pdf.
To see what books other SLPs are using this week, go to Speech Is Sweet and see who linked up!
Thanks Mary! You know, I have a subscription to Lesson Pix and haven't been using it as much as I should. I really have to spend some time playing around with it! Any pointers?
ReplyDeleteJust get in there and play around with it! It's not going to replace my Custom Boards app, but it's going to be a great partner to it! :) Let me know if you have any questions...I'm not an expert (by far), so I may be asking you for some help!
DeleteCute book! I am going to have to check out this Lesson Pix... I have never heard of it :)
ReplyDeleteIt's really neat!
DeleteThanks for linking up! I'll have to check out this book (and lesson pix!). Also, I'm from the mountains of Kentucky and grew up calling a winter hat a toboggan! When we moved north, no one knew what I was talking about! haha
ReplyDeleteWe had discussions about toboggans, hats, and tuques today. My kids thought it was hilarious that the Canadians called them "tuques"! :)
